Inspection Requirements
ALL CONSTRUCTION WORK SHALL BE IN COMPLETE COMPLIANCE WITH THE INTERNATIONAL BUILDING, MECHANICAL, PLUMBING CODES, AND ENERGY CODE, THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, THE NFPA 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE AND ALL TOWN OF NOTTINGHAM ORDINANCES.

1.      Footings, foundation walls, damp proofing and perimeter foundation drains before backfill.  All foundations for new residential, commercial and industrial buildings require CERTIFICATION.
2.      Below grade or slab; Plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems that are placed below concrete slab or below grade prior to covering.
3.      Rough Electrical; All wiring must be completed before being inspected. All work in connection with electrical systems shall not be covered or concealed until approved.
4.      Rough Plumbing; All plumbing systems, wastes, vents and drainage systems must be complete and ready for testing at time of inspection.  All work in connection with plumbing systems shall not be covered or concealed until approval.
5.      All temporary and permanent electrical meter services need an approval inspection sticker before the utility will connect power.
6.      Rough Mechanical: All mechanical systems including ducts for heating, ventilating and cooling systems, steam and hot water piping must be completed and ready for testing at the time of inspection.  All work in connection with the mechanical systems shall not be covered or concealed until approved.  All combustible framing within 3” 0” above oil fired fuel burning appliances shall have a minimum of one layer of 5/8 fire rated GWB installed for protection or automatic sprinkler head over burner.  Oil burner installations shall be inspected by the Nottingham Fire Department.  They can be contacted at 679-5666 to schedule inspection – 48-hour notice required.
7.      Building Frame; All structural and non-structural framing must be completed before inspection.  All other trade work; electrical, plumbing, and mechanical, etc., inspections may be scheduled at framing inspection.
8.      Insulation; NH Energy Code Requirements – all heated areas that require insulation including ceilings, walls, floors and spaces that come in contact with cold unheated areas.  All insulation and fire stopping must be completed at time of inspection.  No insulation shall be covered or concealed until approved.
9.      Underground LPG Tanks; ALL LPG storage tanks must be inspected for compliance with NFPA 58 code regulations.
10.     Chimney, woodstove and fireplaces; all new and rebuilt chimneys, fireplaces and woodstoves must be inspected for code compliance with NFPA 211 regulations.  Smoke chamber shall be parged to a smooth surface both inside and on the outer wall.
11.     Septic:  All septic systems must have a bed bottom inspection before further installation of the system.

FURTHER INSPECTIONS MAY BE REQUIRED BY THE BUILDING INSPECTOR

FINAL INSPECTION

FINAL INSPECTION IS REQUIRED ON ALL COMPLETED WORK

Upon completion of the work, including all electrical, plumbing, mechanical and all other work, an inspection shall be conducted to ensure that the work and systems comply with code requirements.  All necessary tests and approvals for operating the equipment or systems may be required to be preformed at the time of inspection.

CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY

All new structures and other habitable buildings or structures require a certificate of occupancy.  All change of use or change of in tenant occupancy in all commercial, industrial or agricultural business or any other occupation requires a certificate of occupancy.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY

The following is a list of approvals and tests required, but not limited to, in order to obtain approval for a Certificate of Occupancy.

INSPECTION REQUESTS FOR FINAL INSPECTION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS ADVANCED NOTICE

1.      Driveway approval form the Building Department
2.      State of NH Septic Approval for Operation certificate
3.      All lots that have been created by a new subdivision require granite bounds to be set in place
4.      All Commercial Occupancies also require approval for the Nottingham Fire Department
5.       Final Building Department Inspection
6.      House number shall be posted in a visible location from the street
7.      Smoke Detectors must be hard wired, interconnected and audible
8.      All Occupancies must have heat, hot water and sanitary facilities within the structure
9.      Compliance with the Town of Nottingham Zoning Ordinance
