The Nottingham Natural Resource Committee (NNRC), originally called the Nottingham Natural Resource Inventory Committee, was established during the Nottingham Community Profile meetings held in June 2000.
Community members who wanted to add another level of protection for Nottingham’s natural resources formed this ad hoc committee. However, in order to secure grant funding for projects, it became necessary to be annexed to a municipal organization, and the Conservation Commission (NCC) was the appropriate choice. Members of the NNRC include some NCC members and citizens from the community.
The NNRC has been an additional “working arm” of the NCC and has also initiated projects with the approval of the NCC. The primary focus of the NNRC has been for conservation efforts including resource and open space protection through funding, conservation easements and outreach activities. In this way, the NNRC continues one of the major themes generated by the Nottingham Profile meetings - to protect the rural quality of life in Nottingham.
