Volunteers Needed for
2008 Water Quality Monitoring
Nottingham volunteers are needed to monitor the quality of the town’s rivers and streams. Through monitoring, volunteers will have information about the health of the North River and Little River. Monitoring allows for early detection of water quality changes and identifies surface waters that are impaired in their ability to support aquatic life, fish consumption, swimming, drinking water and other critical uses.
The Lamprey River Watershed Association is coordinating the monitoring in the Lamprey River Watershed. Training and equipment is provided by NH DES through the Volunteer River Assessment Program (VRAP). The training session will include instructions on the use of handheld water quality sampling equipment and water sample collection. All volunteers must attend training sessions prior using the water quality equipment.
The Nottingham Conservation Commission has purchased a kit that includes equipment and supplies for measuring baseline parameters: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance and turbidity.
Sampling occurs throughout the summer. The more volunteers the better!
Will you lend a hand and contribute to the health of the watershed?
