Supervisors of the Checklist

The board consists of three registered voters in the town of Nottingham. In every even numbered year the voters elect one supervisor for a term of six (6) years. The expiration date of a supervisor’s term is listed in the Nottingham town report. Any registered voter may file his/her intention to fun for an open position with the town clerk during the yearly January filing period for town offices. In the event a supervisor resigns prior to their term being over the remaining supervisors may appoint one to fill out the remainder of the term

Duties of Supervisors:

  • Maintain and update the voter computer database and data files
  • Accept new registrations, corrections, deletions and party changes during pubic sessions
  • Print and assemble checklists for elections and meetings
  • Attend each election and meeting where a checklist is to be used
  • Fulfill requests for copies of checklist in either paper or electronic format
  • Certify signers of nomination papers
  • Posted sessions as well as non-posted work session as needed

Skills & Availability:

  • Supervisors must be available to attend elections, meetings, trainings, public sessions and work sessions both during the day and evening. Each election year is different depending on what elections take place that cycle.
  • Computer knowledge including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer.

Supervisor Sessions:

The date and time of supervisor sessions are set by the State of NH RSA and the supervisors post public notice of each session. Sessions are posted in the Union Leader, on the town website, and the town bulletin boards.  

Corrections to the Checklist:

  • Voters may request changes to the checklist for reasons of Name change, Address Change and Party change by filling out a new registration form with the Town clerk during her regular hours or during a posted Supervisor session. Registrations taken by the town clerk will be acted upon by the supervisors during their next posted sitting.
  • Removals from the checklist due to death must the requested by bringing a copy of a death certificate to the town clerk or supervisors OR with notification by the NH Board of Vital Statistics.

10 Year Purge:

Every 10 years ending in a (1) i.e. 2011, the supervisors are required by RSA 654:39 to purge the checklist of voters that have NOT voted in any election within the previous four (4) years immediately preceding the 10 year verification.

Change of Party:

  • A registered voter may request the supervisors to change his/her party affiliation any time the supervisors are in session EXCEPT between the first day of the filing period for a state or presidential primary up to and INCLUDING the day of the primary election.
  • Voters may fill out a party affiliation change request with the town clerk during regular hours to be acted upon by the supervisors at their next session EXCEPT between the first day of the filing period for a state or presidential primary up to and INCLUDING the day of the primary election.
  • Undeclared voters may return to undeclared at any PRIMARY election by signing the RETURN TO UNDECLARED book prior to leaving the polls. Any voter that does NOT sign the book will remain declared as the party they voted until they request a party affiliation change.
