Changes to Local Dialing!

Effective October 24th
ten digit dialing

Effective October 24, 2021 MANDATORY 10-digit local dialing is required for all telephone customers in the New Hampshire 603 Area Code.

Why? This change is necessary to ensure that users, by order of the FCC, can dial 988 to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by July 16, 2022.  For 988 to work in our 603 area code, the 10-digit dialing plan must be in place.

To complete local calls, the new dialing procedure requires callers to dial the area code PLUS the telephone number.  This means all local calls in our 603 area code that are currently reached with seven digits will need to be dialed using the area code PLUS the telephone number.

For example, if you live in Nottingham and need to reach the Town Offices, you used to dial 679-5022.    You will need to dial 603-679-5022 after October 24th in order to connect.
