Chief Foss Retiring - public input requested

August 31, 2020

Nottingham Police Chief Gunnar Foss has informed the Select Board of his intention to retire, effective January 1, 2021.

While knowing that his departure will leave an unfillable space in our community, the Board is happy that the Chief is allowing himself to step away after 30 years of service to us all.  He will have earned a relaxing and fulfilling retirement when that day comes.   The Chief will remain on the job and on patrol through December, and we will make time for the community to say thank you at the end of the year.

The process of filling the role is underway, and the Board has retained the services of Municipal Resources, Inc. (MRI), to support the recruitment and screening of candidates.  We will be asking for public input shortly to help MRI and the Board find our next chief.

These are challenging times to be a police officer, and to lead a police department.  With a terrific group of officers and a supportive community in Nottingham, we are confident that our search will be successful.

Update 10/8/20

The Nottingham Select Board invites the community’s input into the selection of its next police chief.  The Town has hired Municipal Resources, Inc. to support the recruiting and screening of applicants.  MRI has created an e-mail address which allows the community to submit input directly and confidentially to the MRI recruitment team.  They would like input regarding the traits and characteristics you desire in a police chief and what you believe to be the challenges facing the incoming Chief and the Nottingham Police Department.
