A Flash Fiction story is usually about 1000 words long – that’s just a little over three typed pages. Nottingham resident James Patrick Kelly, who teaches Creative Writing at the University of Southern Maine, will conduct a free beginner’s workshop in this popular short-short form. Using examples and exercises, Jim will show you how to build a story in just a thousand words, even if you’ve never written fiction before. January marks the kickoff of the New Hampshire Writers Project annual Three Minute Fiction Slam, a statewide competition for Flash Fiction writers, that runs through March. With the tools you’ll get in Jim’s workshop, you can write your Flash Fiction and gather again at the library on February 8 from 6:30-7:30 for a reading and no-stress feedback session. Who knows? You may be inspired to enter the Three Minute Fiction Slam!
