Community: Be Aware of Recent Scam Activities

Please be aware of recent scams in the area. People have received calls stating their grandchildren are hurt and in the hospital. Or that they have been arrested. In all cases, money is requested in order to help out their grandchildren. Please be aware that these are scams and do not send money. Police departments do not take money for bail payments. You have to go to the jail or police station in person and pay a bail comissioner. As well as hospital billing departments will send a final bill by mail after treatment has been completed. If you feel your grandchild is truly in danger, please call them directly or call your children directly. Do not ask to speak to them from the person who called you asking for money. They will put someone on the phone and will always have an excuse for why they don't sound the same. These scammers use scare tactics to try and get people to send money right away. Please use caution in any situation when an unknown person is asking you for money, and remember legitimate businesses are not prone to accepting payment in the form of gift cards.
