Weight Limit on Town Roads

Effective Monday, March 4, 2024

Nottingham Class V town roads will be posted with a weight limit effective Monday, March 4, 2024.  Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of over 26,000 lbs. will be prohibited from these roads until further notice.  Start and end dates will be modified as weather and road conditions dictate.

Road posting during the Spring is common in New England towns, as it protects the road bed from damage during freeze-thaw cycles.  The Select Board approved a Weight Limit Ordinance in 2020, which is attached below.

Trucks with six or more wheels are typically above 26,000 lb. GVW.  Exempt from the limit are town, school, emergency, and public utility vehicles.  Also exempt are those of Nottingham businesses traveling to and from state highways.  Waivers for vehicles not meeting these criteria, but facing other unnecessary hardship, may be available from the Highway Director.  For more information about waivers please read the policy below and contact Highway Director Steve Rollins at pwd@nottingham-nh.gov.
