Coordinated Milfoil Management Underway

Monday July 10th Phase II

The Pawtuckaway Lake Improvement Association (PLIA) continues in its steps to eradicate milfoil in Pawtuckaway Lake.

New England Milfoil was in many areas of the lake last week to manually pull out some of the larger milfoil infestations.

Starting Monday July 10th, the area will be treated with an herbicide by SOLitude Lake Management with oversight by NHDES in those areas of infestation not ideal for hand pulling.  The herbicide to be used is ProcellaCOR EC.    Nottingham's Town Beach will be one of the treatment areas.

The following temporary water use restrictions will be imposed on the day of treatment:

  • No swimming for 6 hours following the treatment, within 200 feet of treated areas.
  • There are no drinking restrictions
  • Turf/established grass may be irrigated immediately after treatment
  • Do not use this water for any residential or non-agricultural irrigation (such as shoreline property use for irrigation or landscape plants and gardens until further notice or a maximum of 7 days.  More details on limitations are detailed in the abutter notice attached below.

Notifications of the treatment plan have already been mailed to lake abutters in treatment areas, where temporary use restrictions will apply, as indicated by SOLitude Lake Management, based on its
permit.  The shoreline in targeted areas will be posted with signs advising of temporary water use restrictions.

More details, including a map of treatment areas may be linked here in an article contributed to the Forum newsletter by PLIA Members Steve Soreff and Pam Kelly.
