Public Scam Alert – Fraudulent Municipal Invoices

scam

The Town of Nottingham would like to make residents, property owners, and applicants aware of a scam that appears to be targeting individuals involved in local land use and permitting processes.

The scam typically arrives by email and includes an official-looking invoice and letter requesting payment of an alleged application, review, or approval fee, often totaling several thousand dollars. These fraudulent communications may appear legitimate by using municipal logos, publicly available contact information, and language similar to that found in official town documents.

Please be advised that the Town of Nottingham will never request payment through unsolicited emails or invoices without prior communication through established municipal procedures. If you receive a suspicious email, invoice, or request for payment that appears to be from the Town, do not provide payment or personal information.

Anyone who receives a suspicious communication that purports to be from the Town of Nottingham is encouraged to contact the Town Office at 603-679-5022 or email [email protected] to verify its authenticity.

We encourage all residents and applicants to remain vigilant and exercise caution when receiving unexpected requests for payment. If something seems unusual or suspicious, please contact the Town directly before taking any action.

Thank you for helping us spread awareness and protect our community from fraudulent activity.
